Recent speculation surrounding the upcoming iPhone Fold has overshadowed important updates regarding the iPhone 18 Pro’s design. A reputable leaker has provided insights into two potential design changes that are still under consideration by Apple.
Ongoing Design Considerations for iPhone 18 Pro
In a series of posts, a well-known leaker on Weibo, Digital Chat Station, has shared new information about the anticipated design elements of the iPhone 18 Pro. According to the leaker, the design is not set in stone, and Apple is evaluating different options.
The first significant update pertains to the iPhone 18 Pro’s Dynamic Island, a feature that has generated considerable interest. Reports from various sources indicate that Apple is contemplating moving some Face ID components beneath the display. This change is expected to shrink the size of the Dynamic Island by approximately 35% compared to the version on the iPhone 17 Pro.
However, earlier, Digital Chat Station expressed skepticism about this change, suggesting that Apple might opt to reuse the molds from the previous year's model. This would result in minimal alterations to the Dynamic Island. In the latest update, the leaker provided a translated post stating:
"Current feedback from the supply chain suggests an A/B testing scenario: one option retains the existing screen mold, while the other features a 'Mini Dynamic Island' with the Face ID RX components positioned beneath the display."
This signifies that both design options are still on the table, and a final decision from Apple has yet to be made. If the smaller Dynamic Island does not materialize, it would eliminate one of the most talked-about design modifications for the iPhone 18 Pro.
In a follow-up post, the leaker addressed inquiries regarding the rear camera design.
According to the leaker, the rectangular plateau design of the camera will remain consistent with the previous year's model. However, there will be minor adjustments to the materials and design details of the rear casing. This likely pertains to the previously rumored changes aimed at achieving a more cohesive design between aluminum and glass components.
Notably, the iPhone 17 Pro featured a two-tone design, which diverged from a seamless aesthetic. The color options for the iPhone 18 Pro are also expected to differ from those of its predecessor.
Given that the iPhone 17 Pro introduced a bold new design, significant changes are not anticipated for this year. The recent leaks align more with the incremental upgrades that have become characteristic of Apple's annual iPhone releases.
As the iPhone 18 Pro's design evolves, it raises the question of how much these changes will influence consumer upgrade decisions. Users are encouraged to share their thoughts in the comments section.
